There are three powers at work in the world, the power of God, the power of man and the power of Satan. Let^s take a closer look at each of these to assess a better more detailed insight into them. But before we begin let me state that many believe in the power of nature and its many components but nature is just another name for God^s creation which is controlled by the spirit realm.
Let us read what the greatest source of knowledge that we have says.
Revelation 10:6 (GNB)
in the name of God, who lives for ever and ever, who created heaven, earth, and the sea, and everything in them.
Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
John 1:3 and 4 (NKJV)
All things were made (or created) through Him (that is Jesus the Word), and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
So we see that God is the creator and source of life. I will not go into details here about God the Father and Jesus His son but let it suffice for now to quote
John 1:1 and 2 (NKJV)
In the beginning was the Word (who is Jesus), and the Word was with God (our Father), and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
So our creator God comprises of a team or family of two, Father and Son, who are in perfect agreement and harmony.
Only God has ultimate power.
Let^s have a quick look at man and his apparent power.
In modern times the power of man seems to be growing in great strides. More and more people are running their lives with only man and his desires in mind. Man^s desires drive economies globally. Scientific knowledge, engineering and manufacturing are growing in leaps and bounds. So much so that man looks at life completely from a materialistic point of view marvelling at his own creations and their uses and ignoring the presence of God and of Satan.
But the powers of man are on loan, limited and temporary. Man has no power to control his own life whether he lives or dies. It is actually appointed for all men once to die.
See Hebrews 9:27 (GNB)
Everyone must die once, and after that be judged by God.
The words of a song come to mind, ^^We^re only living on this earth for a short while.^^
James speaks of man in this way.
James 4:14 (NASB)
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
And here are some thoughts from a wise biblical philosopher and preacher.
Ecclesiastes 1:2 and 3 (NKJV)
^^Vanity of vanities,^^ says the Preacher; ^^Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.^^
What profit has a man from all his labor In which he toils under the sun?
Ecclesiastes 12:13 and 14 (NKJV)
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man^s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.
So the power of man is somewhat an illusion. What power he has is temporary. God is ultimately in control of every man and governs the length of his life and will govern over his final judgement.
Now look at Satan briefly.
The Bible calls Satan the god of this world and so he is. He has great power. He has the power to permeate his deceptions, his attitudes, his will on most of the people often without them even being aware of what he is doing to them.
Revelation 12:9 (NKJV)
that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world
The great deceptions of Satan include things like; twisting man^s thinking into believing and observing meaningless traditions and religions, stroking man^s ego to render him (and her) detestable to God, giving man confidence in his (and her) own erroneous thoughts and ideals and driving men to hate and make war. He is more successful in his endeavours than ever. However his powers are a deception as they will be taken away from him.
Revelation 12:9 (NKJV) Let^s read the whole passage this time.
So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Also note what Isaiah had to reveal.
Isaiah 14:12 (NASB)
^^How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning (O star of the morning is Lucifer as translated in other versions. He is now called Satan the Devil), son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!
Jesus was a witness to this and he testified as much in
Luke 10:18 (NKJV)
And He (Jesus) said to them, ^^I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
Here is more proof of the power of God over Satan.
Revelation 20:1 to 3 (NKJV)
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
Here we see an angel of God who was vastly more powerful than Satan.
Revelation 20:10 (NKJV)
The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
This is Satan^s final destiny. Satan has no control over his destiny. He is stripped of all his power at this point showing that God gave him his power and God took it away. As we saw earlier, if you were paying attention, Satan was created by the Word since all things were created by Him. So God created Satan, gave him his power and then took it back.
Satan has no power on his own.
The true God who has ultimate power goes greatly ignored and unnoticed by the masses even in these last days.
Yet, truth be known, only God has ultimate power.
Only God has ultimate power.
Look at how Paul perceived and recognized God.
Romans 4:17 (NKJV)
God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
1 Corinthians 15:45 (NKJV)
And so it is written, ^^The first man Adam became a living being.^^ The last Adam (that is Jesus) became a life~giving spirit.
1 Timothy 6:13 (NKJV)
I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
And here are some things that John had to say.
1 John 2:25 (NKJV)
And this is the promise that He has promised us eternal life.
John 5:21 (NKJV)
For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
John 6:27 (NKJV)
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.
John 10:27 to 30 (NKJV)
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father^s hand. I and My Father are one.
John 17:1 to 3 (NKJV)
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: ^^Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
So we see explained here the power that God and Jesus have to control all life and even eternal life. This is real and ultimate power. Only the God family has this power and it presently consists of the Father and the Son.
Conclusion
Now man, in great numbers, goes about his life with worldly peace of mind thinking things like, ^I^m ok. your ok,^ ^Live and let live,^ ^Just relax, take it easy,^ ^I^m not too bad,^ ^Don^t worry be happy,^ and many other such philosophies and catchy, comforting, powerful phrases.
Colossians 2:8 (NKJV)
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Colossians 1:16 (NKJV)
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 2:10 (NKJV)
and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Colossians 2:15 (NKJV)
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
So we know that as Christians we are to fight against principalities and powers in high places
Let^s all start living for the ultimate power the one that lives forever and that gives us life.
Psalm 148:13 (GNB)
Let them all praise the name of the LORD! His name is greater than all others; his glory is above earth and heaven.
Revelation 15:4 (GNB)
Who will not stand in awe of you, Lord? Who will refuse to declare your greatness? You alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship you, because your just actions are seen by all.
And finally;
Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Revelation 20:6 (NKJV)
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Revelation 22:3 to 5 (NKJV)
And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
One last sobering warning from Paul,
2 Timothy 2:12 (NKJV)
If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.
