Who Defines Good?

I^ve heard it so many times, ^They are good people.^ I^ve heard it in reference to Roman Catholics, Muslims and many others. Other common expressions are ^They mean well.^ and ^It^s the thought that counts.^ Such expressions often serve the purpose of directing the conversation away from getting at the root of problems. They are like big stop signs that really say, Don^t start preaching to me or telling me that you know some thing I don^t or that you know better than I do. I^m not a psychologist with fancy technical terms but these expressions serve as pacifiers to their users.

People do not want to think about who or what defines GOOD. They will hold fast to their ill conceived idealisms, false beliefs and assumptions to their death beds. What they do when they take these stronghold positions is they reject their Creator God, His Son Jesus Christ and possibly their own salvation. Some of them may even be putting a second death in their future. I am left to believe that I can pray for them or I can pray for them and try to awaken them to a greater reality of truth before it is too late. I chose to do the latter.

The truth is that our Creator God is GOOD and His laws are good.

Matthew 19:17 (NKJV)
So He (Jesus) said to him, ^Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.^

People with good intentions keep all His commandments. People with evil intentions might keep some of his commandments but will disregard or change others to suit their rebellious nature.

James 2:10 (GNB)
Whoever breaks one commandment is guilty of breaking them all.

John 14:15 (GNB)
If you love me, you will obey my commandments.

1 John 5:2 (GNB)
This is how we know that we love God^s children: it is by loving God and obeying his commands.

Everything that God does is good.

Genesis 1:31 (NKJV)
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.

His ways are good.

Hebrews 13:9 (GNB)
Do not let all kinds of strange teachings lead you from the right way. It is good to receive inner strength from God^s grace, and not by obeying rules about …

Matthew 7:13 and 14 (GNB)
Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate to hell (destruction, the grave or death) is wide and the road that leads to it is easy, and there are many who travel it. But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard, and there are few people who find it.

His authority is good.

Luke 19:17 (GNB)
^Well done,^ he said; ^you are a good servant! Since you were faithful in small matters, I will put you in charge of ten cities.^

James 1:12 (GNB)
Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him.

The story has repeated time and time again in history, the people reject God and therein stands the problem.

Numbers 14:11 (NKJV)
Then the LORD said to Moses: ^How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?

Proverbs 1:24 to 27 (GNB)
I have been calling you, inviting you to come, but you would not listen. You paid no attention to me. You have ignored all my advice and have not been willing to let me correct you. So when you get into trouble, I will laugh at you. I will mock you when terror strikes, when it comes on you like a storm, bringing fierce winds of trouble, and you are in pain and misery.

Jeremiah 15:6 (GNB)
You people have rejected me; you have turned your backs on me. So I stretched out my hand and crushed you because I was tired of controlling my anger.

John 12:48 (GNB)
Those who reject me and do not accept my message have one who will judge them. The words I have spoken will be their judge on the last day!

Proverbs 14:33 (GNB)
Wisdom is in every thought of intelligent people; fools know nothing about wisdom.

1 Corinthians 8:2 (GNB)
Those who think they know something really don’t know as they ought to know.

Jeremiah 10:23 (GNB)
LORD, I know that no one is the master of his own destiny; no person has control over his own life.
