Tithes

Buy the truth and do not sell it; Buy wisdom, instruction and understanding. Proverbs 23:23
It is a good idea to spend your money wisely. Buy truth, not lies. Put every purchase to good use, that is practice what you learn.
I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich, and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see. Revelation 3:18 (NASB)
But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. Luke 11:42 (NASB)
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Matthew 23:23 and 24 (KJV)
Since coming out of captivity in Egypt tithes were paid or given to the Levites (Numbers 18:21, Nehemiah 10:37, Malachi 3:10).
Abraham, however, gave a tithe to Melchisedec (Genesis 14:20), the Prince of Peace. Jesus was of the order of Melchisedec (Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 5:6, 6:20, 7:21). And so today, as Christians, we give the tithe to the ministry of God^s Church, the Church that Christ established.
The second tithe was saved in order for the tither to attend Feasts. (Deuteronomy 12:11)
A third tithe was saved (Deuteronomy 14:28), in the third and sixth year of a seven year cycle, for the poor. The seventh year being a year of release. The poor included the strangers, the orphaned and the widows (Deuteronomy 26:12). I consider paying taxes to the Government of Canada and its Provinces, which pays for employment insurance, disability, welfare, pensions, Medicare etc. as covering for the third tithe or at least a portion thereof.
God gives a warning concerning tithes in Malachi 3:8 and 9. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. (KJV)
And so we are expected to give offerings also. And there you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the contribution of your hand, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the first~born of your herd and of your flock. Deuteronomy 12:6 (NASB)
That is the Biblical truth. May God strengthen us to do His will.
