WHY TEST? TO SEE IF...
KJV: Ac 5:9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
KJV: Lk 20:23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
NASB: Jas 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, I am being tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
ASV: Ps 53:2 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none that doeth good. 2God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, That did seek after God. 3Every one of them is gone back; They are together become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And call not upon God?

NASB: 1 Co 3:13 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man^s work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man^s work. 14 If any man^s work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man^s work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire.
NASB: 2 Co 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you, unless indeed you fail the test? 6 But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test.
NIV: 1 Jn 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
NASB: Re 2:2 I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot endure evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; 3 and you have perseverance and have endured for My name^s sake, and have not grown weary.
NIV: Ga 6:1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other^s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5 for each one should carry his own load.
NIV: 1 Th 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit^s fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil.
RSV: Mt 22:18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?
