A train of thought inspired by the drought in 2012.
Searching for profound meaning in things is somewhat like studying weeds as opposed to wheat or corn, for so many.
Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

God wants all to follow His way of life that leads to eternal life.
Proverbs 12:28
In the way of righteousness is life; And in the pathway thereof there is no death.
Satan wants everyone dead, some soon some later.
John 8:44
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.
Most people are more influenced by Satan than by God.

It is no use for them to worship Me, because they teach man made rules as thought they were My laws.
What is more profound than life and death? Our Creator God is the origin of life. He is life and the giver and sustainer of life. He is the origin of all that exists.
Genesis 1:1
IN the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
God here is plural. They consist of God the Father and His Son the Word who we know better as Jesus our Christ.
John 1:1 to 4
IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word (Jesus) was with God (The Father), and the Word was God (as in the Creator Family of God).2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.4 In Him was life
It is all His and we are His. We have been bought with a price.
1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20
do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
The Father has given judgment to His Son Jesus (John 5:22) and Jesus will decide who will live and who will die at the final great white throne judgment (Revelation 20:11).
Do you take the words of Jesus to heart?
Matthew 15:8 (Jesus quoting and supporting Isaiah)
These people, God says, honor me with their words but their heart is really far from me.
God wants us to choose life.
Deuteronomy 30:19 and 20
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,20 by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him:
The words of Jesus are life.
John 6:63 (Jesus speaking)
It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The sign commandment, the Sabbath.
Exodus 31:12 to 18
And the LORD (JESUS) spoke to Moses, saying,13 But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.14 Therefore you are to observe the sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.15 For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death.16 So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.17 It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.
18 And when He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Changing the definition of words like Sabbath does not constitute truth. It is adultery.
